Andrew Doss, CEO & Founder
Andrew was in his first law school class when the levees broke and flooded his hometown of New Orleans with the 2005 Katrina flooding disaster. Since then, he has served at various levels of government and non-profit organizations to connect local communities with global systems to prevent, respond to, and recover from catastrophe. An internationalist focused on equity and the intersection of culture and governance, he brings people together to problem-solve the most complex challenges of our time.
Andrew is an award-winning attorney and writer, and brings an interdisciplinary perspective to systems innovation. He holds graduate degrees in American law (J.D., Georgetown University Law Center), public international law (LLM, Leiden University), and ritual & theology (M.Div., Yale University, where he taught “International Challenges of the 21st Century” in the Political Science Department). He has served as a criminal prosecutor, policy advisor for the Mayor of New Orleans and Governor of Louisiana, and Director of the Resilient Louisiana Commission to guide the economy through the first year of COVID-19. He has also worked extensively in the nonprofit sector, especially focused on long-term, inclusive economic planning with Rising Tide Capital and the Center for Planning Excellence. Outside of the US, he has spent four years living in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Colombia. Andrew is also a playwright, mediator, hospital chaplain, and Mardi Gras enthusiast. He is grateful to all those who have shared countless hours designing 3DL, and is excited to build a full-time team.
pia mcaleenan, Systems Transformation & Learning
Pia McAleenan is the CEO of Förnyelselabbet a Swedish platform for and learning network for societal transformation and systemic design. Förnyelselabbet was founded in 2016 as Swedens’s first policy lab, initiated by SALAR and the Ministry of Social Affairs, now continuing as an independent platform.
Pia is passionate about empowering civil servants and citizens alike to collaboratively tackle complex societal challenges. Pia's leadership has fostered a vibrant community of practice, enabling reflection, growth, and engagement. She has also spearheaded the establishment of the Swedish Lab Network and Governance Innovation Sweden.
Pia brings a deep understanding of welfare structures and the essential conditions for successful innovation, honed through her extensive experience as a pedagogue and innovation leader. She is a strong advocate for creating environments that both test and challenge, while also educating and inspiring. The lab works on micro actions to attain system transformation and societal and system transformation. Rituals, space for reflection and dinner concepts are some of the ways this is being done.
Since 2022, Pia has served on the boards of Mindshift Sweden, Youth 2030, and offers her expertise to the Advisory board for the Agency for Participation. Pia and the insights of Förnyelselabbets long work on creating conditions for societal change has been an inspiration in designing 3DL. The initiative plan to collaborate with Förnyelselabbet and co-develop methods and governing structures for a 3 degree living where people and planet can live more sustainable.
Seung Hong, Advisor
Seung is a professional campaigner and administrator from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. His work has been especially focused in campaigns, civil rights, criminal justice, and climate and renewable energy related policy and media work.
Before transitioning to full-time consulting, Seung served as Managing Director of State Campaigns, Director of Administration, and Communications Manager for the Alliance for Safety and Justice. In New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s inaugural term, Seung served for three years as the city’s youngest cabinet member. As a cabinet member, he was tapped to operate and turn around the city’s beleaguered juvenile justice system, which was under federal court oversight for unconstitutional conditions.
He previously served as Chief of Staff to City Councilmember Shelley Midura, for whom he drafted policies and managed campaigns to reform the city’s troubled police department with an Independent Police Monitor, safely reduce the population in the city’s adult and juvenile jails, and create an Office of Inspector General and Ethics Review Board to watchdog against waste and corruption in city government. Prior to his work with the city, Seung worked for the Juvenile Justice Project of Louisiana as Communications Director and following Hurricane Katrina, he co-founded a criminal justice reform advocacy nonprofit called Safe Streets, Strong Communities. Seung is a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he studied English and Sociology.
